Important Things to Know When Planning a Bahamas Trip

To plan a Bahamas trip, I think it essential to know a few things about these islands.

Located in the Atlantic Ocean, east of the USA (Florida) and north of Cuba, The Islands of Bahamas form a 100.000 sq miles of archipelago and have 500 miles of clearest water you could find in the entire world.

Here you can find a beautiful coral reef barrier witch is the third longest in the world representing about 14.5 % of the world’s coral.

There are 700 islands, including the uninhibited cays and the large rocks and the most important are the following:

Paradise Island

Grand Bahama

Abacos

Acklins

Andros

Cat Island

The Berry Island

Eleuthera

The Exumas

Inagua

Long Island

Mayaguana

San Salvador

The capital of the Bahamas, Nassau, is located on the New Providence Island (25°4′N, 77°20′W) and is the place where Governor General Arthur Dion Hanna and the Prime Minister Hubert Alexander Ingraham reside.

The population of Bahamas is 323.000 (from a 2003 estimate) and it’s formed of black 85%, white 12%, Asian and Hispanic 3%.

The official language in Bahamas is English but they also speak Creole among the Haitian emigrants and Spanish among Cuban and Dominican emigrants.

The climate of Bahamas is subtropical to tropical witch is very nice if you think about the beatiful sunny weather but also very dangerous in summer and autum because of the hurricanes.
